How To Pick A Music School In Blacktown For Music Lessons

Thinking about getting your child into music lessons at a Music School In Blacktown ?

This can be a pretty daunting topic as a lot of parents aren’t really sure what to expect from a Music School. Firstly you would need to gauge what type of music your child wants to learn, most music schools will have teachers specialized in certain styles of music. Most generally teaching classical or notation based music but a lot of newer schools also provide a contemporary approach.

It is also a good idea to look for a music school that has a free trial on offer to see if your child gets on with the teacher before committing to a full term of lessons. This has nothing to do with qualifications or experience, some teachers just generally will not suit certain children. This comes down to factors of the teachers own expertise and musical interests compared to the student as well as if their personalities match.

By doing a free trial class there is no commitment while your child takes their time to find the right music school and/or music teacher to suit them. Which is very important as their first few months experienced with music lessons will shape how they view music lessons and music education. I see a lot of time kids with lots of potential who come to our school reluctant at first due to past experiences with other private teachers finding class ‘’boring’’.

For most kids in a modern age of tablets, computers and pop culture so easily accessible contemporary music is what I would recommend most children learn unless they state or show interest in classical music. Firstly they will be a lot more motivated to practice music that they know rather than outdated material and the skills they learn a lot more useful for a working musician. Regardless if they want to pursue music long term or just as a lifelong hobby, the skills they learn through studying contemporary music will benefit them with academics like HSC Music Performances, the option to do cover band work, teaching privately while studying at university and as well as the social element of playing with friends and making lifelong friends through music.

In regards to instrument choices for young kids 4-6 I would recommend Piano and from 7-8+ on wards any instrument will be suitable. This is just from my own observation and experience of course there will always be exceptions! One of my favorite students to teach is a 5 year old boy who learns the Guitar. If your child is unsure what they would like to learn, see if you can talk to the Music school about arranging for the trial class to do a mix of two instruments. For example a really popular trial for us with small kids is 15 minutes Guitar and 15 minutes Piano.

In summary, I would try out local Music Schools in Blacktown and make your decision based off which teacher has the best rapport and is able to engage and inspire your child best!

Have a lovely day.
